Welcome, we are members of the Falls District of the Occoneechee Council of the Boy Scouts of America. |
Andy Gilbert
1956 - 2010
As a member of Order of the Arrow Andy was a scouter through and through. He donated 17 years of his adult life to the Boy Scouts of America. Some of us first met Andy when he volunteered to become the Packmaster for Pack 399. As his sons Stephen and Tim grew Andy moved on to become the co-Scoutmaster for Troop 399. Andy then took on the role of Troop 399 Committee Chairman. In 2005 Andy's son Stephen earned the rank of Eagle scout.
After his sons aged out Andy continued to contribute his time to the scouts by becoming the Falls District Commissioner where he regularly published the district newsletter. Andy received the District Award of Merit from Falls District and the Distinguished Leadership Citation from Impessa District (Falls District was formed out of Impessa District).
During his 17 years Andy earned the following awards in scouting: Den Leader Award, Cubmaster Award, Boy Scout Leader Award, Arrowhead Award, William Boyce Award, Bachelors in Commissioner Science, District Award of Merit, Distinguished Leadership Citation, Wood Badge Trained SR-362 (as a Fox) and Philmont Trained.
Andy served on the University of Scouting staff since we began in 2005. He taught the Campfire Gadgets & Gourmet Cooking Class every year.
Here are the last two issues of our District newsletter which contained Andy's words:
Andy spent much of his time behind the camera, so finding pictures of him is challenging. Here are some rare images contributed by various members of Troop 399.
Below Andy is seen enjoying some fishing with the scouts.

Here we see Andy in the center of the photo in scout pants and a burgundy shirt consulting with other members of the animal patrol, the adult patrol.
