Scout Master

General

  • Train and guide boy leaders.
  • Work with other responsible adults to bring Scouting to boys.
  • Use the methods of Scouting to achieve the aims of Scouting.

Meetings

  • Meet regularly with the patrol leaders' council for training and coordination in planning troop activities.
  • Attend all troop meetings or, when necessary, arrange for a qualified adult substitute.
  • Attend troop committee meetings.
  • Conduct periodic parents' sessions to share the program and encourage parent participation and cooperation.
  • Take part in annual membership inventory and uniform inspection, charter review meeting, and charter presentation.

Guidance

  • Conduct Scoutmaster conferences for all rank advancements.
  • Provide a systematic recruiting plan for new members and see that they are promptly registered.
  • Delegate responsibility to other adults and groups (assistants, troop committee) so that they have a real part in troop operations.
  • Supervise troop elections for the Order of the Arrow.

Activities

  • Make it possible for each Scout to experience at least 10 days and nights of camping each year.
  • Participate in council and district events.
  • Build a strong program by using proven methods presented in Scouting literature.
  • Conduct all activities under qualified leadership, safe conditions, and the policies of the chartered organization and the Boy Scouts of America.

Communications Coordinator

  • Committee Position
  • Monthly newsletter mailed to Scout’s home to parents and Scout
  • Gives Program agenda for upcoming month – Program and Service Patrols for each meeting, Program subject for each meeting, etc.
  • Details of Field Event for upcoming month – when, where, what time, how much, when return, etc.
  • Previous month meeting highlights – advancements, etc.

  • Fundraising, Courts of Honor, Service Projects
  • Maintains list of Scouts, Scouters – names, address, phone(s), email, etc., patrol rosters
  • Liaise with ALC, Advancement Coordinator – maintain list of available service projects – post in Chapel.  *SM/ALC approval required prior to project initiation by Scout
  • Work with Troop Historian and Web Master to develop and maintain Website
  • Other miscellaneous items as necessary

Field Events Coordinator

  • Plans Field event to coincide with monthly Troop program
  • Secures location for Field event
  • Assists in maintaining long range plan for Troop programs/Field events
  • Liaises with Transportation Coordinator – logistics, routes, seats, etc.

Transportation Coordinator

  • Liaises with Field Events Coordinator for transportation requirements
  • Maintains list of active available drivers for Troop activities – Insurance documentation required
  • Secures adequate transportation for each Troop activity, prior to departure date and time
  • Develops and communicates loading chart for each vehicle – equipment and passengers by name, at time of Scout’s arrival for Troop activity
  • Secures Tour Permit from Council office and delivers to Field Events Coordinator prior to departure

Eagle Advisor

  • Coordinates Eagle Projects with advancing Life Scouts
  • Provides advice and counsel to advancing Life Scouts
  • Liaises with District Eagle Board

Advancement Coordinator

  • Maintains advancement records for all Scouts, rank and merit badges
  • Schedules, coordinates and communicates Scoutmaster Conferences – one night each month
  • Schedules, coordinates and communicates Boards of Review – one night each month
  • Liaises with Merit Badge Coordinator
  • Plans and helps execute Courts of Honor – Three times yearly
  • Scout store purchases – badges of rank, office, merit badges, awards

Finance Coordinator

  • Disburses Troop funds for approved expenses
  • Maintains Troop financial records
  • Collects Annual Dues and Fees
  • Collects and disburses funds for summer camp and other approved Troop activities

Equipment Coordinator

  • Provides guidance for Troop Quartermaster
  • Maintains Troop equipment in good supply and in good repair
  • Provides guidance to Patrols in maintaining Patrol chuck box; inventory and upkeep
  • Provides recommendations to SM/Committee with regard to new equipment purchases/replacement
  • Oversees Troop Quartermaster, insuring that necessary equipment and supplies are available and accompany Troop on all Field Events and outings.
  • Field Flag Kit - American, Troop, pole, ropes, clips, box, etc.

New Scouts/Troop Instructor/Troop Guides

  • Mentors and develops Troop Instructor and Troop Guides
  • Provides direction to Youth Leadership in selection of Troop Guides
  • Oversees mentoring of New Scouts by Troop Instructor and Troop Guides
  • Plans and executes New Scout orientation and training functions with Troop Instructors and Guides
  • Liaises with Pack on Crossover of New Scouts – Handles logistics – books, shirts, hats, fees, etc.

Merit Badge Coordinator

  • Maintains list of Council approved Merit Badge counselors for Troop
  • Liaises with SM, PLC, Field Events Coordinator to tie monthly Program, monthly Field Event into Merit Badge Requirement.
  • Schedules, locates counselor and facilitates classes for Eagle required merit badges – 1 per quarter
  • Assists Scouts with planning Summer Camp merit badge schedule
  • Liaises with Advancement Coordinator to determine Eagle required merit badges that should be taken in camp or offered by Troop
  • Liaises with Finance Coordinator to organize summer Camp process- Check-in, merit badge scheduling, etc.

Uniforms/Used Equipment Coordinator

  • Maintains inventory of Troop hats and T-shirts, Troop numbers, Patrol emblems for sale to Scouts and Scouters
  • Maintains the cache of used uniforms – develops system – area designated in Quartermaster’s Store
  • Plans, organizes and conducts Annual Troop Swap meet for equipment, uniforms, etc.

Fundraising Coordinator

  • Troop Committee Position
  • Will Chair committee of parents responsible for Troop Fundraising Event authorized by Troop Committee
  • One major event per year – Wreath Sale
  • Handle funds from Trash Pick-up – Liaise with Safari Club of Raleigh
